How it all started
Hello! I'm Amanda, the founder of Wild Prairie Organics. My venture into natural ancestral skincare was ignited during my career as a dental hygienist. In the profession of dentistry, cleanliness is top priority. I found myself repeatedly washing my hands and relying on store-bought hand creams to alleviate irritation and dryness.
I began to realize that the harsh chemicals present in everyday products weren't just depleting my skin's natural moisture barrier; rather, I found myself attempting to replenish that lost moisture with creams full of toxins and harsh chemicals. After nearly a decade of dentistry, I delved into skincare research and ultimately found my solution: tallow.
Why tallow?
Tallow is the main star of Wild Prairie Organics’ skincare products and there’s a big reason why! Tallow shares similar properties to our own skin and is highly compatible and bioavailable. The amalgamation of fatty acids and vitamins in tallow mirrors the composition of our natural sebaceous oils, rendering it complementary with our skin. It penetrates the cell wall effectively, leaving behind a luxurious, moisture-rich sensation.
Tallow has a combination of important, naturally occurring fatty acids including conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) as well as alpha-linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic fatty acids that give tallow its remarkable bioavailable properties. The naturally present fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K aid in rejuvenating and sustaining the equilibrium of your skin's inherent protective barrier.
Tallow and all things organic
Throughout my college years and professional career, I've gained a rather complex understanding of our skin's natural barrier, recognizing it as the body's largest organ capable of absorbing almost everything we apply to it. As my journey began, I found myself experimenting with early creations, handcrafting homestead-inspired recipes using tallow. I have since refined my methods to develop a skincare product line that is both natural and effective. While utilizing organic, grass-fed and grass-finished tallow suet is important, I am equally mindful of the necessity for other ingredients to be organic as well. I source all of my ingredients to be organic with additional ingredients mindfully prepared as either cold-pressed, unrefined, or for therapeutic use. I never use artificial dyes or fragrances, micas, parabens, phthalates, soy, sulfates, fillers or preservatives.
We use tallow that is certified organic by small farms and a third party that is antibiotic-free, hormone free, pesticide-free and Non-GMO
The environment
I prioritize sustainability by opting for environmentally friendly packaging choices. For lip balms and solid skincare balms, I use cardboard tube packaging, while glass jars with metal lids are utilized for whipped tallow moisturizers. This conscious decision minimizes plastic usage, aligning with my commitment to reduce environmental impact.
